From Disco Godz to Digital DNA
I started DJ'ing at the age of 16 as a member of a DJ crew known as the Disco Godz. My DJ name back then, circa 1970's, was "DJ Disco Al". We performed at house parties, weddings, and college campuses across NYC. It was an exciting time—I was just a kid in High School getting paid to DJ for adults.
While the music was playing, my brain was coding. I took computer programming courses throughout high school and had mastered three languages before college. Eventually, adult responsibilities and my education took priority. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Monroe University and focused on work and family.
"In my day, we carried heavy milk crates full of vinyl LP records. Today, technology has revived my passion."
The leap to digital music amazed me. The ability to organize tracks instantly and access professional effects with a button press is a far cry from the days of $7.00 vinyl records and manual echo boxes.
Today, I am a "Closet DJ"—literally! My setup remains in my closet where I create and post mixes whenever I have a chance. I hope you enjoy the sounds. God Bless.
